Migrating Wordpress from Subdirectory to Root

  1. I am interested in developing a wordpress website, but I want to do my development in a subdirectory while I get the bugs out. Once I am done, I want to migrate it to the root directory for all the world to see. What's the best way to do that?

  2. That's pretty easy, actually.

Do the install and setup in the subdirectory, then when you're ready to move to the root, go to Settings > General in the Word Press admin section and remove the subdirectory from the path in WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL). Then just move the files and you should be good to go.

You want to make the change to the admin section before you move the files or it will be a pain to access admin after the move.
