converting to sql server 2012

    What is the easiest way to convert a database from 2008 R2 to Sql Server 2012? Thanks.

    You don't convert them. They are running on different engine version. You need to create a new DB (2012) and restore(2008R2) content to the new DB.

    Does that mean I do a backup of the 2008 database, and a restore to the 2012 one?

    Yes either restore them or script the whole object and repopulate on new DB.
