   Have I understood it correctly if I say there is no way I can use the Basic plan ($4.95) and use an SSL certificate with my domain?

   That is correct. You will have to upgrade to either the Max or Ultimate plan. This is because you need a Unique IP address. With the Basic plan you get a Shared but static IP address.
