Cant see our site

  1. We migrated all files via ftp from our current server to Winhost.
    We updated the DNS records.
We can't see our website, except for a small portion of it here:

    http://nowcomp.com/nowcomp/used_storage_systems.htm

I submitted a support ticket but they told me to post my problem here. Here is what Winhost support has told me:

    (1) I see you have no files in the root of your account which is why you're seeing the default Winhost welcome page. If you go to http://nowcomp.com/nowcomp/used_storage_systems.htm, you will see that your site is working (or at least that part of it).

    (2) I've gone to your http://nowcomp.com/nowcomp2/ URL where it seems you have an application running however there is an error message that is related to your code. If you have any coding related questions I would recommend posting them in our community forum so that one of our developers can assist you.:(

My partner who did the ftp of the website says this regarding website root files:

The root is either "/" or "/nowcompc" Currently the folders that the website is accessing are these two I BELIEVE: "nowcomp2" and "nowcomp"
I believe that the actual website files are in "nowcomp2" and I am not sure whether or not they are accessing "nowcomp" for the flat html files of all the part numbers etc or if "nowcomp" is just OLD and "nowcomp2" is generating the files on the fly.

Please help! Our website is not visible on the net.

  2. Based on what support said, it would appear that the files and/or directory structure that were supposed to be uploaded to the root of the account were uploaded to a directory named nowcompc instead. That's why this works:
    http://nowcomp.com/nowcomp/used_storage_systems.htm
    and this doesn't:
    http://nowcomp.com/used_storage_systems.htm.

It's not an uncommon issue - someone has their site backup in a folder on their computer that is named for the site, then they upload that entire directory to the new site via FTP. What they really wanted to do is upload the contents of the directory...not the directory itself.

    Does that make any sense?

  3. Thanks Hank. Yes, this makes sense. What is the fix then? Do we need to re-do the ftp sending just the contents?

  4. Yes. That should solve many of your problems.
