API for control panel

Discussion in 'Suggestions' started by Sean Lynch, Oct 21, 2009.

  1. Is there any plans for an API in the control panel?

There are a couple of things that I would like to see them for:
    Domain Pointers
Domains hosted at Winhost but registered elsewhere
    Site ordering/maintainance
    SQL Server

We don't have plans right now for an api. But we will note your suggestion. Thank you.

  3. would you mind if I write something to interact with your current panel?

  4. Has anything been done regarding this suggestion? I would like to add the ability to create SubDomains from code on my site. The purpose of this is for the sales staff would not have to learn how to or remember to make settings in both places for my application.

  5. No plans for a Control Panel API yet. I'll bring it up again at a weekly meeting and see what happens.

Opening up an API for features/tools in the control panel is not as easy as it sounds. First we have to weight in thee security holes. Then the integration to the control panel and how we are going to track which and who logs into what. Other then Sean and you no one else has really asked for it, so at this time its really not on our list of to-do things.

  7. I would be interested in some form of an API, that way I could look at having a Winhost Control Panel developer for iOS.

I too like that idea. But its a factor of cost factor for setting it up and maintaining it versus the price we offer it. I'll let our managers know about it, but the more members asks and post it on the forum the more likely our managers and product development team will have to consider it.
