What is the best way to add webmail.mydomain.com

Discussion in 'DNS/Domain names' started by fontano, Feb 16, 2010.

  1. To easy the transition from our previous hosting site, I would like to setup up the DNS entry: webmail.mydomain.com

For our users to access their webmail, instead of mail.mydomain.com

What is the best way to go about doing this?

    CNAME?

As I just want to setup a pointer, to the mail.mydomain.com so that if Winhost has to do any re-arranging of servers, it is all handled correctly in the name servers.

Just go to Winhost control panel, click on the tabs Domains, navigate to the Domain Manager and add an A record entry for webmail.mydomain.com and point it to the same IP address as mail.mydomain.com.

  3. If in the future, you need to move the webmail host (to a different IP)..
Would Winhost make all the necessary IP changes, or would I be responsible for that? (since mail.mydomain.com) is one of the default addresses?

You will be responsible for that.
