Hi All, I am new here and new to the whole URL rewrite usability. I used to have a program called Spider Bait that did it for me, when I hosted on my own servers but now I don't have it and would really like to be able to rewrite my URLS.... Here is a sample of a current URL http://www.mickeynews.com/News/DisplayPressRelease.asp?id=11230Paws What I used to do it replace the ? with _Q_ the = with _E_ and the & with _A_ Can someone tell me how I can accomplish this with the URL rewrite? Please keep it simple for me.. LOL Thanks and Happy Holidays to all! Gavin
What is it are you trying to rewrite? Is it the URL... http://www.mickeynews.com/News/DisplayPressRelease.asp?id=11230Paws I'm not quite sure but it seems like you want to replace the question marks and equal sign of --DisplayPressRelease.asp?id=11230Paws-- to --DisplayPressRelease.asp_Q_id_E_11230Paws-- Is this correct? Also try looking at this link for more information on how to clean up your URL. http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/460/using-the-url-rewrite-module/
Yes, that is exactly that I am trying to do.. Replace all the ? with _Q_ the = with _E_ and the & with _A_ in any of my URL's
I'm not quite sure if the IIS 7 manager will do that more like clean up your URL so it doesn't show the question mark and equal sign. Have you looked at the link I sent you? Also try looking at this link. http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/497/user-friendly-url---rule-template/ The example is fairly good and the instructions are pretty straight forward.
Rewrite Provider Ray It looks like this is what I need to do: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/804/developing-a-custom-rewrite-provider-for-url-rewrite-module/ Trouble is I don't have II7 on my development machine so I can't get the DLL it build this... But this is exactly what I need... Any ideas? Thanks, Gavin
This will not be possible on our shared hosting provider. For you to accomplish this, we will need to install your custom provider directly on the servers GAC. Sorry, but because this is a shared hosting environment we cannot allow this for security and stability reasons.
No worries, now that I read it again, I don't think it would work, it just replaces a single character with a single character... Oh well, back to the drawing board..
