I have just signed up; got the email confirming the domain registration. When ftping from visual study, I get an error saying the server may be down. I am sure that I am doing everything right. Help please? Is there another way to ftp? Mathew
I suggest using any FTP clicent such as FileZilla for now. The reason being is because VS (Visual Studio) doesn't really generate a FTP log. A FTP log is a communication log between the computer and the server and it is very helpful in finding out the root cause of the FTP problem. You'll also need to remember that VS can either connect to the server using FrontPage Server Extensions or FTP. We only support FTP.
Hello all i have exactly Mathew problem. when i trace the Winhost steps(in this link http://support.Winhost.com/KB/a483/how-to-deploy-visual-studio-20082005-visual-web-developer.aspx) to upload my website using visual studio FTP the error message appeared: "unable to open the web site 'ftp://www.hostingaccountdomain.com/mywebsite'. could not find a web server at 'www.hostingaccountdomain.com' on port 21. please check to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. if you are sure that everything is correct, the web server may be temporarily out of service.". After that i created new FTP user by Winhost control panel and i uploaded my website by FileZilla FTP program, my site uploaded successfully but when i entered control panel i dont see "File manager" in my control panel, i dont know from where i can see my website files that i already uploaded by FileZilla, or how i can display my website in the internet by my control panel in Winhost, please help me. thank you all for your great efforts.
There is no file manager feature in the Winhost control panel. If you want to view the files you uploaded to the server you will need to use FTP.

Yes, now i can see my files by FileZilla and i can explore them, but how i can display my site and make it run in the internet? because when i open my site www.wahidi.net nothing in it although i already uploaded my site by FileZilla and i can see them by FileZilla. thank you again Ray.
It looks like you uploaded your files to a subfolder "Website2". You need to upload your files directly on the root which is the folder one higher level from "website2".
yes because the name of my website folder is (website2), but suppose that i reupload my website folder under the root, is this means that my website will display and run in the internet without any settings? thank you Ray.

Try changing the connection mode on your FTP client from Passive mode to Active port mode. Send us a new FTP log if iti continues to fail.
Hello Ray, thank you for your reply. How can i change my mode from passive to active? if this by put the port which is (21), the same error appeared. if there is another way to change my mode, please tell me.
For FileZilla it shoudl be Edit/Settings/FTP/Passive Mode. Click on the bubble 'Fall back to active mode'.

It still says that it is going to passive mode Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (96,31,35,30,19,222). If you see this line on your FTP log, it is still using passive mode.
It is strange, i checked my FileZilla settings again and the option "Fall back to active mode" is still selected.
Not sure what to tell you. But the log is clear and you are connecting through Passive Mode. This is caused by your FTP client not the server.

Hello Ray, just i want to tell you that finally my website is Ok, i think the problem was from me, because i have to upload my website files when i use FileZilla under specific folder. the name of this folder is the same name of my FTP user name, i did not see this folder before yesterday, now after i saw it, i remember your replay about root folder, because i was upload my website under the first folder in FileZilla directory.
