Problem connecting to server through IIS Manager

  1. I followed the instructions in article 628 "Using the Microsoft IIS 7.0 Manager" but have not been able to get connected. In the article it says,
"Server name: Your alternate URL address (excluding the "http://" portion)". On the site information page I see no alternate URL address so I used the secondary URL and put in
    <<my site name>>.w01.Winhost.com
    I also try with
    www.<<my site name>>.w01.Winhost.com
Either one gets me to the next step but in the article below the instructions for entering the server it also says, "Site name: Your domain name" but I see no field for domain name.
    Next the article says:
User name: Your site default FTP login name
    Password: Your site FTP password
I enter my FTP User name, as listed on the site info page, and my FTP password which I updated on the site info page just to make sure it is correct. When I click on the next button this message pops up:
Could not connect to the specified computer.
Details: Unable to connect to the remote server.

I tied using the full domain name in the name of the server as in:
    mydomain.w01.Winhost.com
and now when I enter the user name and password I get the message:
Could not connect to the specified computer.
Details: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I use IIS 7.5 in Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. I also tried using the full domain name in the name of the server as in:
    mydomain.w02.Winhost.com
and now when I enter the user name and password I get the message:
Could not connect to the specified computer.
Details: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

Sounds like you are choosing Connect to Server. Make sure you are choosing Connect to Site.

Try to use your domain name as the site name.
