Forum RSS Feed

  1. Hi folks.

I regularly use another forum that uses the same vBulletin software.

I was just thinking how cool it would be to add their RSS feed to my phone then i'd see when new posts arrive (i have a scrolling display on my phone just under the weather) so I looked and I wasn't the only one who has asked as this is supported by the vBulletin software but needs to be setup by an admin.

    I found this link: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/388477-RSS-Feeds-Set-up?highlight=rss

Would it be possible to turn this feature on for the Winhost forums?

  2. Nice input! Hopefully this will be enabled in the future

  3. It is already enabled, it just hasn't been exposed via link or icon or anything.

    Here you go.

  4. Yes! It works!

    This thread:

    http://forum.Winhost.com/showthread.php?t=9283

explains it, I chose the 'all forums' option and so I opened the RSS reader on my phone, clicked on Channels, then add new channel, said I knew the URL which is this:

    http://forum.Winhost.com/external.php?type=RSS2

and typed it in, then I named the Channel Winhost and off it went and got some of the latest posts for me :)

I wonder if this post will appear on next refresh ...

Nope ... Perhaps they've set it so that the RSS file only gets updated daily.. oh well, still good :)

I might forget all about Winhost for a while then all of a sudden I'll notice something from Winhost popping up on my phone, that'll get me to visit the Winhost website again.

    Cool.

  6. ok the RSS feed for 'all forums' is great but you only get to see the initial post for a new thread, you dont get to see the replies.

There arent that many posts. would it be possible to set it to all posts including replies please?

I promise it'll make your forum 'stickier' :)

best regards and keep up the excellent work!

  7. That's not an option at the moment, I'm afraid. But we are moving to a more modern forum software in the not-too-distant future (but more like 6 months rather than 6 weeks) that may offer improved RSS capabilities.

  8. Ah ok, well thanks for looking anyway.

At the moment the RSS feed for all forums is only displaying new topics so it'll display the first post for a new topic and that's your lot :)

Hopefully in future forum software there will be an option for 'all posts' like there is in phpBB then I can keep an eye on everything thats going on :)
