  1. Does anybody know how to exclude a folder from the project while publishing to hosting account? NOT, exclude from the project.

I am assuming you created the web application as "New Project" and not "New Web Site". Try this open the project but specify Files/Open Web Site and navigate to the project folder. Once open go to Website/Copy Web Site. This will take you to a connection Wizard. Basically you will choose FTP site and input all the required fields you will want to use to connect via FTP. Once you are connected, you will see a window. One side should say Source Web site: the other side will read Remote Web site. On the Source Web site you can highlight the folders and files you want to transfer over. If you choose open Project, then you will only have the publish method. You still will configure it to connect via FTP but I believe it has limited capabilities on what files and folders you can choose.
Another way is to simply use a true FTP client such as FileZilla to upload your files. This definitely allows you the options of choosing what files and folders to upload unto the server.
