Hello: I am getting the follow error: The user instance login flag is not supported on this version of SQL Server. The connection will be closed. I am using 2008 server sql. Does any on know how I can fix this? Recency
Can you give us the full and exact error message? Where are you seeing this error message at? Are you seeing it in your SSMS or your web page hosted on our server?
The messages are appearing on your server. The webpage displays but the login controls and so admit errors. My homepage is http://www.homemadeartdrawings.com This is the message that I am recieving now: Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. Source Error: The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL: 1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example: <%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %> or: 2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application: <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true"/> </system.web> </configuration> Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode. Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario. Your application pool is being recycled. There are some conditions setup on the web servers so that no single application consumes all of the servers resources such as CPU and Memory. 1) More than 20 minutes of idle time (no http request in 20 minutes) 2) The application uses more than 100 MB memory for Basic plan 200 MB for Max plan. 3) The application uses more than 75% of CPU time If you do not need viewstate, I suggest you disable it by seeing viewstate to False on your .Net application. If you want to find out what condition your application is hitting, I suggest you open a ticket to our support department and they can check the event log for any recycle entries for your application pool. Bear in mind that the event log does not record the specific reason why the application pool is being recycled only the condition it reached. If you need to find out what module, component, or assembly is hitting these thresholds, you will need to test it on your development box and incorporate these same conditions we have on our servers.

To disable viewstate, go to your applications web.config file and look for this line. <Pages EnableViewState="false"/> I'm not completely certain the SQL connection error you are getting maybe related to your viewstate problem. Can you give us a copy of your connection string?

The viewstate element should be under the system.web element. Try looking at this link. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/950xf363.aspx Bear in mind that it is case sensitive so you'll have to be careful with what you type. If you want a more graphical way of disabling viewstate try using the IIS 7 manager. Use this kb article for some guidelines on how to download, and setup IIS 7 manager to connect to our server. http://support.Winhost.com/KB/a628/using-the-microsoft-iis-70-manager.aspx Once you're connected click on the module (button) "Pages and Controls". Click on the plus sign '+' next to the text ViewState". Once expanded you can set "Enable View State" to False, and click on Apply to set the changes. Remember, each web application may have its own web.config file. So you'll need to navigate to the subfolder of the application you are targeting and set the changes on that web.config file.
same symptom - different problem + solution hi I had the same symptom or error message. in my case this was the cause: - I decided to move out all my database code (with .dbml models) into a separate assembly - in the new assembly, 'DatabaseLibrary.dll', there was code that attempted to connect to the database, without specifying the connection string. stuff like this: using(AspAccountDataContext ctx = new AspAccountDataContext()) { .... } This code was trying to take its connection string from the config file for the assembly: 'DatabaseLibrary.dll.config'. However this config file did not exist on the web site, because I forgot to deploy this config file ( the Publish feature does not seem to pick up config files of sub-assemblies). So the code tried to connect to the 'default' database setting which is in the .dbml file, which was something like '/SQLEXPRESS;' - my local database instance ! The solution I went for was to deploy the missing .config file, AND to change the default connection string to point to the web site SQL Server instance. This resolved the error message. BTW you have a password in the clear up there you might want to change it
Thanks for posting your solution. Done. It looked like a local dev password, but I took it out anyway.
