Can Not Connect With IIS7 Remote Manager

Discussion in 'General troubleshooting' started by sutilities, May 8, 2010.

  1. New to Winhost
followed along all the help articles and videos
installed the IIS 7 manager as described.

I am trying to connect by selecting connect to a server and entering my IP address, setting the username to my accountid or cp login id, as it is displayed in the IIS 7 Site Tool icon and entering the same password I used to log in to control panel with. I get an unauthorized error, as shown here:

  2. Also I read this post....http://forum.Winhost.com/showthread.php?t=3764
I do not seem to have telnet on the command line in Windows 7
Firewall is OFF on my PC, the port 8172 is opened both ways on my router
I am using Connect to Site not Connect to Server. I am entering my domain name in both the server and site fields in IIS 7 Remote Manager
I can successfully ping my IP address from the command line.

  3. just to update I still CAN NOT connect to a site with my IIS 7 Remote Manager. I get the same unauthorized message
    http://screencast.com/t/Zjc5OTIyNDY

I WAS able to install the Telnet client on Windows 7 AND SUCCESSFULLY connect to telnet www.sutilities.com 8172

It's something with the login not being the same as my control panel login or my IIS 7 is not configured correctly, I would guess.

  4. let's start from beginning

1.from IIS manager, click file => Connect to a site
2.server name would be the secondary URL that you can see in control panel

    example:
    mysiteUsername.w01.Winhost.com

    3.sitename is the domain name.

    mysite.com

    4.click next

    5. enter your main FTP login username.
    example:
    mysiteUsername

    6. enter your password. This password is the same for the FTP, i think.

    7.click OK.
