Old ASP.net site and new Core 2.0: Can both live in the same site?

My asp.net site and its associated SQL database are hosted by Winhost. I am currently in the process of rebuilding my entire site from scratch using asp.net core 2.0 MVC and also with some razor pages. This will take several months. During construction, I would like to be able to run the sections of my site that are in the new platform along with the sections of my site that are in the old platform. Can I do this? Can I simply upload my new ASP.net Core 2.0 site in the same site as my old ASP.net site? How would I go about doing this?
As you can probably tell from my question, I am not a professional programmer, so I'd appreciate answers in laymans' terms if possible. Thank you!
